The George vs Life Podcast

Is 2018 the year I start a podcast?

I’m not sure if I’ve ever explicitly said this on the blog (I’ve uploaded hundreds of thousands of words, so I’m gonna assume yes and apologise early doors for it), but one of my biggest regrets from University is not starting a radio show when I had the chance to.

And for those of you who think I’m just copying Zach Braff in his new sitcom which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago, you’re wrong, I started writing this blog post like 3 months ago. So there x

In hindsight, it was my best chance to have a show which could be a home and an outlet for two passions of mine: Banter and Music.

Radio is obviously a really hard industry to get in to, and whilst I think it would be fun, I’ve never even tried it. Student Radio at Warwick was my chance and I missed the boat.

However, there may be another way for me to find fulfilment. A podcast.

Podcasts are growing in popularity every single day. It’s no longer just on iTunes either, as Spotify is positioning itself to be more of a platform for podcasts as well. Also, is it me or are all of the top Youtubers starting podcasts? There’s clearly a trend moving towards audio content, and demand is only going to go up.

Also there’s this hot new app Anchor which is basically lowering the entry to podcasting and is positioning itself as twitter for audio. It’s a really cool concept and there’s already plenty of users on the platform.

This of course begs the question of what sort of podcast I would make. What would I talk about? Would it just be me talking? How long would it be? Who would I get to help me make the show?

And basically I don’t have any of those answers. My interests are basically the following: Tech, Football, Politics and Drinking. As much as this blog is just a stream of consciousness of my thoughts and feeling on each of those subjects, I feel like I would need a bit more focus if I wnated to make a podcast and make it an actual thing. I like the idea of it being a lifestyle podcast though, with a current affairs feature where I/we (whichever of my friends I can convince to do this with me) chat about for a bit.

Basically: There’s loads of people in my life who I have really funny conversations with over beers, and I want to record that, dress it up a bit and make it a podcast for people to listen to.

So effectively the audio equivalent of this blog, a bit closer to a vlog, but probably with a co-host.

I would either need to find someone called George, or someone willing to help make a podcast with my name on it though.

So I guess I can end this with a bit of a request. Do you want to help make a podcast with me? I feel like using Skype/Hangouts/Other software geography doesn’t need to be an issue. The only really requirement is good chat and a willingness to be a bit ridiculous.

Hopefully I’ll at least make a couple of trial episodes this year.

HMU x

P.S I just thought of a really funny tagline for any podcast I make:
