The Worst Thing About 4 Years of Trump

It’s really sad to think about.

Okay, so this might not be THE worst thing about a Trump presidency, but it’s going to be really shit and who really knows what he’s going to do right now? We’re a week away from the inauguration and we’re all just guessing and trying to assure each other it that it won’t be too bad. But the following is a damn near certainty.

Trump being elected has made me sad for so many reasons. I’m not going to list all of the ways that he’ll probably make America and the world a worse place to live in because I try to keep these blogs under 500 words or so and we don’t have all day.

Instead, I’m going to focus on one little area where we can be pretty confident what’s going to happen. Or not happen as the case may be.

I’m going to talk about gun laws.

Yup, I’m going to talk about that thing that anyone reading this blog will agree with me on, but if certain people in America saw me say then they’d probably hunt me down or something.

Hey America, I think you might need some stricter gun laws, just saying.

I’m not going to google loads of stats about how many people die in the USA every year due to guns, because you can do that yourselves and I’m not here to report on bad news, I’m here to give my George vs Life spin on it.

So, Obama doesn’t like guns. He’s been pres now for 8 years and you can see at each announcement after a shooting that he was becoming more and more of a broken man, especially as I think the last year has been the worst yet. (Don’t quote me on that, I think I heard it somewhere).

And yet, because of the way the American political system works with the house and congress, Obama hasn’t been able to make any real change in the world of gun laws, despite him being actively in favour of them.

Now, we’re going to have Trump, someone who isn’t against guns and has lots of supporters who like theirs guns and their second amendment, for the next 4 or 8 years along with a republican dominated house and congress.

The chances of America bringing in any stricter gun laws under a Trump regime are basically zero.

And that is a terrible thing. A truly terrible thing.

Because every time there is a shooting, and the president needs to address the country to mourn the loss of life and comment on the event to the nation, we’re going to have Trump’s orange ass face in front of the camera.

The fact is this: Introducing stricter gun laws in the USA would save people’s lives. It would save children’s lives, women’s lives, innocent people’s lives.

Every day that America doesn’t bring in such laws is another day that people are at risk of dying, and I’m devastated to say that we’re about to have at least 4 more years of waiting.

In the next four years there will be gun crimes, there will be mass shootings, and Trump will address the nation and have to think of something to say.

And there will probably be acts of terror as well, and it might come from islamic extremists, and Trump will address the nation after those as well.

I’m sure we can all tell how he’s going to approach each kind of event there.

In a few years (or a few tens of years) when the US finally brings gun controls into place, they’re going to look back at the huge loss loss of life and kick themselves for not doing it sooner.

It’s genuinely horrible for me to sit here and predict such horrible events happening with such certainty, but you know as well as I that these things will happen, and I’m afraid that under Trump things just aren’t going to change.

In 50 years we’re going to look back on this period of history and feel really bad about what we let happen, and it all starts in a week.

Mark my words.
