Traveluary
January ‘23
Sometimes I have periods of time where I just don’t think of ideas for blogs and I will just go months without uploading anything. But I watched an interview with Ed Sheehan once when he was talking about song writing and he said he thought of it like clearing out a dirty tap – you just need to switch it on and accept that dirty water is going to come out for a while before the clear water is going to start flowing again.
This is a dirty water blog, this is to get the tap flowing in the hopes that I can inspire some clear water to come out of my brain.
I’m travelling a lot this month! I started the month in Norwich, did a couple of days in London, then I’m also doing trips to Detroit, Toronto and Charlotte for work. It’s pretty cool to be honest, and I’m very thankful that I get to travel on somebody else’s dime.
Now, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss the thought of having more than 2 successive nights in my bed in Chicago, but that will come. I’m all about enjoying the times you’re in when you’re in them.
If I spent my time in Chicago pining to travel and my time on the road pining to be back home, then I’d just be miserable wouldn’t I? Of course both have pros and cons, but by flipping the switch I go from 0% enjoyment all the way up to 100%!
I think about this a lot, especially when I’m on trains. By definition a train is leaving one place and headed towards another place. You can spend your time worrying about the place you’re leaving or you can focus on the place you’re going, because you’re going there for a reason! You can worry about the place you left on the way back, when you’re headed that way!
So yeah, January 2023 will go down in the books as Traveluary 2023 and now I have this dirty water blog to remember it by.
P.S I have once again set myself the yearly target of uploading 52 blog posts to this website in 2023 (I think I managed thirty something in 2022?). I used to do this every day, so it can’t be that hard can it?
